Origin and history

The Archaeological Museum of Mariana – Prince Rainier III of Monaco was inaugurated in June 2021 in Lucciana (Borgo), after more than twenty years of reflection by local elected representatives. This cultural project is based on a remarkable archaeological collection, including paleo-Christian mosaics unique in Corsica, as well as gold trimmings and exceptional glassware. The museum incorporates multimedia devices to restore the complex history of this Tyrrhenian territory, combining ancient heritage and modern industrial context.

Designed by architect Pierre-Louis Faloci, winner of the 2018 Grand Prix national d'architecture, the building is distinguished by a clean volume with horizontal lines, in dialogue with the surrounding landscape and two nearby Romanesque churches. It also houses a conservation and research centre, directly linking archaeological discoveries from excavations (programmed or preventive) to the public. The museum offers panoramic views of the Casinca mountain and the Tuscan archipelago, while revealing a major ancient city, largely preserved but invisible.

The establishment is labeled "Museum de France", and stands as a link between past and present, highlighting a scientific and accessible heritage. Its assets include rare collections and innovative scenography, aimed at making a history often unknown tangible. The site, located at 10 Strada di u Granalese in Lucciana, is part of a process of valorizing Corsican heritage, anchored in its Mediterranean area.
