Origin and history

The archeological museum of Blasimon has its origin in the excavations organized mainly by Abbé Hoarau, founder of the institution. This research, carried out in collaboration with the municipality of Blasimon and the surrounding villages, has brought together objects covering several periods, from the Magdalenian Paleolithic to the medieval period. The collections include lapidary remains of Gallo-Roman villas and necropolises, as well as elements from the local abbey, reflecting the historical richness of the region.

The museum is housed in an 18th-century building, adding an architectural heritage dimension to its archaeological interest. Although the precise location is considered poor (note of 5/10), the establishment benefits from the label Musée de France, guaranteeing the quality of its collections and its management. Among its major assets are the artifacts of the Magdalenian and medieval pieces, which offer a panorama of successive human occupations on this girondin territory.
