Origin and history
The departmental museum of the mountain is part of the movement of ecomuseums and outdoor museums that appeared in the 1970s. Located in Château-Lambert, in the Vosges Saônoise, it offers a reconstruction of traditional houses in the heart of a park, offering an immersion in the local architectural and cultural heritage. Its museum approach aims to preserve and transmit the know-how and lifestyles related to the mountain.
Inaugurated on 16 September 1978, the museum gradually expanded its facilities. In 1980, a sawmill was opened, illustrating the region's forestry and artisanal activities. Then, in 2008, a section dedicated to the mine was added, expanding its theme to include mining resources in the Saônoese Vosges. These additions reflect the evolution of local economic and heritage issues.
The museum is integrated into a wider cultural network, as evidenced by its links with other institutions in Haute-Saône and Franche-Comté. It contributes to the development of regional tourism, highlighting often unknown aspects of industrial and rural history. Its territorial anchor makes it a key player in the collective memory of the mountain communities of the region.
