Origin and history

The Museum of Mine of Bosmoreau-les-Mines is located in the same building as the town hall of this village of Creuse, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It is entirely dedicated to the local history of the coal basin, covering a period of 150 years, from 1890 to 1955. Visitors discover a vein of wired coal, as well as models illustrating the evolution of mining techniques and the living conditions of workers.

The exhibition is organised in seven thematic rooms, where immersive reenactments plunge the public into the daily lives of minors. A kitchen, a typical accommodation and a classroom of the period allow to understand their living environment, while archival objects and documents evoke the economic and social importance of the mining industry in Limousin. The museum thus highlights an industrial heritage that has now disappeared.

Although the source text does not specify the details of its creation, this museum is involved in preserving the collective memory of coal mining in the region. It is part of a wider network of sites dedicated to mining history, as can be seen from the related articles mentioning the Bosmoreau Houillères or the mining industry in Limousin.
