Edmond Rostand - Poet and academician Former resident of Villa Arnaga.

Origin and history

The Edmond Rostand Museum was created by deliberation of the Cambo-les-Bains City Council on July 11, 1958. Originally installed in the town hall, he was transferred in 1961 to Villa Arnaga, the former residence of poet Edmond Rostand, where he lived from 1906 to 1918. This villa, acquired by the municipality, now houses collections related to its life and work, including manuscripts, drawings, and personal objects.

Villa Arnaga, listed as a Historic Monument, is an emblematic example of neo-Basque architecture. It maintains original technical facilities and houses memories of Edmond Rostand, such as his academician clothing, decorations, and a reconstituted salon. The museum is labeled "Musée de France" and offers various collections, ranging from fine arts to paper archives.

The topics covered include the biography of Edmond Rostand, architecture, decorative arts, and fine arts. The museum showcases works such as decorative paintings, portraits, and autographs of the poet. The location of the museum, in Cambo-les-Bains in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, makes it a major cultural place in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
