Origin and history
The Mussidan Museum of Folk Arts and Traditions (formerly associated with Beaupouyet in some sources) derives from a major donation by Dr. André Voulgre. Its collections, focused on local ethnography, bring together household furniture, agricultural tools and objects related to traditional crafts. The exhibits illustrate rural life, with sections dedicated to the cooper, blacksmith, marshal-ferrant, cartron, sabotier, shoemaker, potter and chaissier, reflecting the craftsmanship and know-how lost or endangered.
The Friends of the Museum have enriched the original space by creating two thematic rooms: one dedicated to the prehistory of the Isle Valley and the other dedicated to regional fauna and flora. The museum occupies a 19th-century cartreuse, a former master house with side pavilions, which also houses exhibitions on Beauronne's peasant pottery and traditional agricultural techniques. This place, labeled Musée de France, thus combines built heritage and material collections to testify to the rural way of life in New Aquitaine.
The official address of the museum, according to the Museofile base, is located at 2-6 rue Raoul Grassin in Mussidan (Dordogne), although some geolocalized sources mention an approximation at 29 Rue des Fusillés. The accuracy of this location is considered fair (note 5/10), highlighting a possible gap between administrative data and field reality. The website museevulgre.fr allows to deepen the practical information and the topics addressed.
