Origin and history
Since the end of the 17th century, Tulle has housed a weapons factory, shaping a unique industrial heritage. The museum's collections, from this factory, were first exhibited in Building 102 (1922-1962), then transferred to Building 5. In 1979, a dedicated museum was inaugurated for the bicentenary of the Manufacture, designed by its workers.
In 1999, the museum became a city and in 2010 was enriched with collections on Resistance and Deportation, expanding its historical field. Today, collections are scattered in four buildings, only two of which are accessible to the public. The project "Cité de l'Accordéon et des patrimoines de Tulle" aims to consolidate these collections into a modern and functional space.
The museum preserves 381 weapons from the Army Museum and 1,964 firearms references, white and accessories, reflecting Tulle's technical heritage. However, the current infrastructure, inadequate (lack of space, precarious conservation, limited accessibility), motivated a renovation project in two phases: a new museum and a documentary reserve.
