Origin and history
The Merovingian necropolis of Quiéry-la-Motte is a funeral site of the High Middle Ages, located near the Escrebieux, a river then navigable in a densely populated area. This cemetery extends over 4500 m2 and consists of about a thousand burials, organized in rows with a head orientation to the west. Its organization reflects Merovingian funeral practices, marked by rigorous spatial structure.
The site was recognized as a Historic Monument and fully protected by an order of 25 January 2008. The parcels concerned, located at Le Chemin de Beaumont and Au Chemin des Balloteaux, cover several cadastres (AB 97, 98, 103, 121). The approximate location, indicated as 5/10 in precision, places the necropolis near Rue de Billy, in the Pas-de-Calais.
No information is available on buried individuals or specific artifacts discovered on site. The site is not explicitly described as open to the public, and the sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) do not mention guided tours or tourist facilities. Its main interest lies in its extent and organization, characteristic of the Merovingian necropolises in rural areas.
