Origin and history

The Church of Notre-Dame d'Auquainville, also known as the Church of the Nativity of Notre-Dame, is a Catholic religious building located in the delegated municipality of Auquainville, integrated since 2016 in Livarot-Pays-d'Auge. It is located in the Calvados department in Normandy, 650 metres east of the town of Auquainville, in the Touques valley. Its architecture and interior furniture, including a 17th century Cordoba leather antependium, reflect its centuries-old history.

The building, built in the 15th and 18th centuries, was restored in 2016, especially for its bedside and sacristy. The church retains remarkable furniture, including the altar, the altarpiece, the tabernacle and three paintings, all classified as objects. It is protected by an order of 9 May 1978, which designates it as historical monuments.

The Notre-Dame church in Auquainville is a typical example of Norman religious heritage, mixing medieval elements with more recent additions. Its furniture, canvas paintings and leather antependium from Cordoba testify to the artistic and cultural richness of the region. The location of the building, in the Touques Valley, makes it a point of historical and tourist interest for the local community and visitors.

Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its status as a historical monument and its management by the municipality. The church remains an active place of worship while being an architectural witness to medieval and modern times in Normandy.
