Church: registration by decree of 6 March 1928
Origin and history
The church Our Lady of Bazoches-les-Gallerandes is a historical monument whose construction spans centuries. The upper nave, dated from the 13th century, is distinguished by its vaults and arches resting on columns engaged to the north and sculpted culs-de-lampe to the south. The windows of the abside, originally designed in this primitive Gothic style, were redesigned in the 15th century, reflecting an architectural evolution marked by late influences.
The nave bass, added at the beginning of the sixteenth century, completes the structure by offering a stylistic contrast with the medieval part. The bell tower, on the other hand, illustrates this temporal duality: its 13th century base supports an upper part of the 15th century, adorned with garmined windows, typical of flamboyant Gothic art. The ensemble, built of carved stone, bears witness to the varied artistic techniques and tastes of these three periods.
Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 6 March 1928, the church now belongs to the municipality of Bazoches-les-Gallerandes. Its two-nave plan with polygonal bedside, as well as its preserved decorative elements, make it a remarkable example of religious architecture in the Loire Valley, mixing medieval heritage and nascent Renaissance. The location, specified as "a priori satisfactory", would place the building at the approximate address of 1 Church Square in the heart of the village.
