Origin and history

It is an archaeological monument located on the territory of the municipality of the same name in the Île-de-France region. This type of site, characteristic of protohistory, generally served as a fortified site for Gaulish or Celtic populations, playing a strategic, economic and defensive role. However, the available data do not specify its exact period of occupation or its architectural or historical specificities.

In the general context of Ile-de-France at the Iron Age, the oppidas were key centres for trade, crafts and the protection of local communities. These sites reflected a hierarchical social organization, often linked to agricultural, metallurgical or military activities. Their study makes it possible to better understand the territorial and cultural dynamics of the Gaulish peoples before Romanization, although there is a lack of sources to attribute specific events to Grisy-sur-Seine.
