Origin and history
The oppidum of the Courtine in Ollioules is a major archaeological site dated the fourth century BC. Located in the commune of Ollioules (Var), it bears witness to the protohistoric occupation of the region. The monument has been listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments since 1949, with protections covering several cadastral plots (B1 405 to 410, 556 to 559).
The remains of this oppidum, typical of fortified iron-age settlements, reflect the social and defensive organization of local populations. These sites often served as shelters, storage sites or political centres for surrounding communities. Their strategic location, like that of the Courtine, allowed to control the channels of communication and agricultural resources.
Available data (Monumentum, Merimée database) indicate that the oppidum is located in 1846 A Chemin de la Courtine, but geographical accuracy remains variable according to the sources. No information is provided on its current accessibility (visits, services) or on historical characters related to the site.
