Oratory Notre-Dame : inscription by order of 22 July 1935

Origin and history

Notre-Dame is a monument located in Fontvieille, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. This place, inscribed as a Historical Monument by decree of 22 July 1935, belongs today to the commune. Although its precise location is considered mediocre (note of 5/10), it remains a point of local interest, as evidenced by data from the Merimée database and photographs available under Creative Commons license.

Oratories, often linked to religious practices or community landmarks, played a central role in the life of provençal villages. In Fontvieille, as in other communes in the region, these buildings served as places of devotion, assembly or symbolic protection for the inhabitants. Their presence reflects the importance of faith and local traditions in the social and cultural organization of Provence, especially before the twentieth century.
