Oratory Notre-Dame de Bon-Secours : registration by order of 21 September 1936

Origin and history

Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours of Saint-Alban-Leysse is a religious building inscribed in the Historical Monuments since September 21, 1936. Located in the commune of Saint-Alban-Leysse, in the department of Savoie (region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), it bears the name of a traditional Marian devotion, Notre-Dame de Bon Secours, often associated with places of pilgrimage or protection for travelers and local inhabitants. Its architecture and location, at approximately 2263 Route des Monts, suggest a spiritual and landscaped role in Savoyard territory.

Such oratories, which are widespread in the mountains, historically served as gathering points for collective prayers, processions or stops when travelling between villages. In the Alps, they also marked parish boundaries or paths frequented by peasants, pilgrims or merchants. Although the details of its construction are not specified in the available sources, its classification in 1936 reflects its heritage importance, probably related to its seniority or its characteristic architectural style.

Today, the property of the Oratory belongs to the commune of Saint-Alban-Leysse, making it a preserved public good.
