Origin and history

The Triangular Oratory of the Tower-of-Bon, located in the Brulat estate in Castellet (Var), is a religious monument built in the 16th century. Its atypical architecture and its location on the old road between Cuges and Camp make it a remarkable vestige of Provencal heritage. It was listed in the Historical Monuments Inventory by order of 9 November 1939, stressing its historical and cultural importance.

In the 16th century, the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d的Azur was marked by an intense rural and religious life. The oratories, often erected at the crossroads or on frequented roads, served as places of devotion for travellers and local inhabitants. These buildings also reflected the pious practices of the time, where the Christian faith expressed itself through modest but symbolic constructions. The Tower of Bon is part of this tradition, although its specific history remains partially documented.

Available sources, including the Merimée and Monumentum base, indicate that the oratory was formerly associated with the municipality of Cuges before being attached to the Castellet. Its current location, near the Tower of Bon, is approximate, with a cartographic accuracy deemed "passable" (note 5/10). No additional information is provided on its past uses or possible sponsors, limiting historical details to its official protection and construction period.
