Origin and history

Notre-Dame Oratory is a religious building located in Puyricard, Aix-en-Provence. Built in the 18th century, it is a typical example of small Marian devotional buildings erected in Provence at that time. Its modest architecture and its location at the crossroads of the Glacier reflect its role in the daily life of the inhabitants, serving as a place of prayer and gathering for the local faithful.

Ranked as historical monuments by decree of 22 July 1935, this oratory illustrates the importance of Provencal religious heritage. At that time, oratories often played a central role in rural or peri-urban communities, marking spiritual and social landmarks. Their preservation bears witness to the people's attachment to these places of collective memory, integrated into the cultural landscape of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
