Origin and history

The Montrond orientation table is an archaeological site located in Mijoux, in the department of Ain, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This monument, although little documented about its exact origin, is recognized for its heritage importance, as evidenced by its classification as historical monuments in 1936. It is close to the Maréchaude road, in a preserved environment.

The 1936 classification specifically concerns an area of 100 meters radius around the orientation table, thus underlining the desire to protect not only the monument itself, but also its immediate surroundings. This type of site, often linked to geographic or historical landmarks, reflects the historical orientation and marking practices of the territories. In Mijoux, as in other rural communes of the Ain, these monuments could play a role in structuring local landscapes and movements, especially in mountainous or forest areas such as the Jura Mountains, where Mijoux is located.
