Façades sur la place des Etats, sur la rue Delansorne et sur la place Ltab and roofs surmounting them: classification by decree of 16 September 1946
Origin and history
The Palais des Etats d'Artois, located in Arras in the Hauts-de-France, is a historic monument built in the 18th century. It is distinguished by its facades on the Place des Etats, the rue Delansorne and the Place Ltabri, as well as by the roofs that surmount them. These architectural elements were classified by ministerial decree on 16 September 1946, highlighting their exceptional heritage value. The building is now owned by the department of Pas-de-Calais.
The building is located precisely at the following address: Place des Etats, rue Delansorne and Place Ltabri, in the city centre of Arras. Although its GPS location is approximate (42 Rue Désiré Delansorne), official sources, such as the Mérimée base, confirm its anchoring in the city's historic urban fabric. The accuracy of this location is estimated as fair (note 5/10), according to Monumentum criteria.
The Palace of Artois states embodies the administrative and political importance of the region in the 18th century. At that time, Arras was a dynamic centre in the province of Artois, marked by a hierarchical social organization and a business and craft economy. The provincial states, which were representative assemblies of the three orders (clergy, nobility, third state), played a key role in local management, and this type of palace served as a framework for their meetings and decisions. These institutions reflected tensions and collaborations between elites and royal power in a pre-revolutionary context.
