Origin and history
The Thermes Floral Park, also known as the Green Park or Green Theatre, is an iconic green space of Aix-les-Bains in Savoie. Created in 1865 on the location of the wall of the Marquis de Seyssel, it was originally conceived as a landscape walk for the curists. The state acquired the estate that year and entrusted its development to landscape architect Samuel Revel, who drew aisles, green rooms and an English park. Open to the public in 1869, it quickly became a place of relaxation and sociability for residents and visitors to the spa.
In 1933, the park was redesigned by Charles Bouhana in a style influenced by Art Deco, with geometric lawns and straight aisles. This transformation coincided with the construction of the new thermal establishment by architect Petriaux in 1932. The park, then rented by the municipality, hosts flower and beverage kiosks, as well as an adjacent walkway. A green theatre, capable of welcoming 3,000 spectators, was added in 1953 for outdoor shows, strengthening its cultural role.
The park has been home to a Moroccan fountain since 2005, built by Moroccan artisans in memory of Morocco's independence agreements negotiated in Aix-les-Bains in 1956. This monument symbolizes the historical links between the city and Morocco, celebrated during the "Journées franco-marocaines" in 2016. Ranked a historic monument in 2008, the park combines plant heritage (cedars, lime trees, plane trees) and cultural events, while adopting an ecological management (zero pesticide, plants that lack water).
Today, the Thermes floral park remains a major asset for the thermal city, attracting regular attendance, especially in the summer. Its multiple entrances, its proximity to the station and public transport, as well as its green theatre animated by concerts (such as the Musilac festival) make it a living place, mixing history, nature and culture. Its label "4 flowers" and its flower d.
