Origin and history

The Patin House, located in Saint-Aignan in the Centre-Val de Loire region, is a dwelling dating from the late 15th or early 16th century. This building illustrates late medieval civil architecture, with a wooden facade and a brick filling. Its ground floor was initially occupied by three shops, separated by ground columns. These architectural elements support an adorned sandstone, which bears the corbellation of the first floor and ends with carved caps.

The Patin House was classified as a Historic Monument by order of 28 June 1932, with protection covering its façade and roof. This type of construction reflects the commercial and artisanal activity of the towns of the Loire during the Renaissance, where the houses also served as workplaces. The decorative details, such as mouldings and caps, bear witness to a refined artisanal know-how, typical of this period of transition between the Middle Ages and modern times.

Today, the Patin House remains a preserved example of medieval urban planning in Saint-Aignan. Its exact address, 9-11 rue Constant-Ragot, is referenced in the Merimée base, and its location is considered satisfactory (note 6/10). Although information on its current use (visit, rental) is not specified, its status as a Historic Monument makes it a notable architectural heritage of the region.
