Origin and history
Picardie's Fonds régional d'art contemporain (FRAC) is a cultural monument located in Amiens. This type of institution, created to promote and disseminate contemporary art, plays a key role in the democratization of access to artistic creation. FRACs are generally places of conservation, exhibition and mediation, often linked to public collections of works by living artists or 20th century artists.
In Amiens, as in other regional cities, this type of structure is part of a cultural dynamic aimed at valuing local and national artistic heritage. FRACs actively participate in cultural life by organizing temporary exhibitions, educational workshops and events. Their presence reflects a desire for decentralization of art, allowing the inhabitants of the regions to benefit from direct access to contemporary works, often in relation to the historical and social specificities of their territory.
