The seventeenth century in Burgundy-Franche-Comté corresponds to a period of reconstruction and beautification of villages after the unrest of the wars of Religion. The fountains, often placed in the heart of the villages, served as an essential water point for inhabitants and livestock. Their presence also reflected a desire to mark public space with utility and aesthetic works, symbols of local prosperity.
