18th century stone cross, located at the entrance of the village: classification by decree of 12 December 1959
Origin and history
The cross of Saint-Vital is a monumental cross located in the commune of Ouge, in Haute-Saône, Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. Dating from the 18th century, it is distinguished by its stone construction, typical of the religious buildings of this period in the French countryside. Its location, at the entrance of the village, suggests a symbolic or commemorative role for the local community.
Classified as historical monuments by order of 12 December 1959, this cross illustrates the importance attached to the preservation of rural heritage. Crosses of this type often served as a spiritual or territorial marker, reflecting the piety and social organization of villages under the Old Regime. Their conservation allows us today to study the religious and artisanal practices of past centuries.
According to available sources, the cross is located on the edge of departmental road 44, near Laperrière Street. Owned by Ouge, it remains accessible to the public, although the practical information about its visit is limited. Its classification reflects its heritage value, both architecturally and historically.
