Origin and history

La Pierre Fichade is a menhir located in Champeix, in the department of Puy-de-Dôme, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This megalithic monument, erected during the Neolithic period, is made up of Darkosis and culminates at 3.37 meters high. It has two large faces (east and west) and two smaller (north and south), with oblique cracks visible on the west face. Its apex, rounded to the face and truncated with profile, bears witness to old-sized techniques.

Ranked as historical monuments in 1889, the Pierre Fichade is associated with a local legend attributing its erection to fairies. This type of monument, typical of megalithism, reflects the cultural and religious practices of the Neolithic societies of the region. Menhirs, often isolated, could mark symbolic places or serve as landmarks in the landscape.

Historical sources, such as the Inventory of the Megaliths of France (CNRS, 1983), confirm its archaeological importance. Menhir is now protected and part of the megalithic heritage of Puy-de-Dôme, alongside other comparable sites. Its approximate location and conservation status are studied for researchers in prehistory.
