Origin and history

The dovecote of the castle of Lastours, located in Lisle-sur-Tarn, is a listed historical monument, the only significant vestige of the original domain. Built in the 17th century, it bears witness to the refined architecture of the period and the importance of wine estates in the region. Its association with the old castle of Lastours, restored by the Calmels family at the beginning of the seventeenth century, makes it an emblematic building of local heritage.

The architectural and aesthetic quality of this dovecote is exceptional, which is worth mentioning in many specialized works on the subject. It illustrates the know-how of the builders of the time and the prestige of the noble or bourgeois families who owned wine estates. Its registration as a Historic Monument by decree of 7 April 2015 confirms its heritage importance.

The dovecote is linked to the history of the Calmels, who acquire the estate at the beginning of the seventeenth century and undertake restoration works of the castle. This monument, although the only notable vestige of the original estate, offers an overview of the seigneurial life and agricultural practices of the time, including the breeding of pigeons, symbol of social status and wealth.

The location of the dovecote in Lisle-sur-Tarn in the Tarn makes it a key part of the heritage of Occitanie. Its state of conservation and historical value make it a site of interest to lovers of architecture and rural history. The accuracy of its location is estimated as 'a priori satisfactory', according to available data.
