Pigeonnier du Ramier Maleville (Box F 74): inscription by order of 30 May 1989
Origin and history
The Ramier Maleville pigeon house, located in Montauban, Occitanie, is a massive brick building dating from the first half of the eighteenth century. Its architecture is distinguished by three cornices girding the building, a tiled roof canal of the type "mule foot" with stall, and walls exceeding the roof on three sides to protect the pigeons from the wind. The ground floor served as a stable, while access to the upper part was through a door on the first floor. At the back, three foothills reinforced the structure, which probably depended on the neighbouring farm, dated 1737.
The dovecote retained a remarkable nest system consisting of 400 to 500 pots of earth integrated into the masonry. This detail, rare for the time, illustrates its agricultural use and its importance in the rural economy of Tarn-et-Garonne. Ranked Historic Monument by order of 30 May 1989, it bears witness to the construction techniques and agro-pastoral practices of the region in the 18th century.
The location of the pigeon house at 1686 Chemin du Ramierou is estimated with average accuracy (level 6/10). Although the practical information on the visits or services offered is not specified, its listing as Historic Monuments makes it a protected heritage, representative of the Occitan agricultural structure.
