Origin and history

The German cantonment site of the Boulay in Sideville, dated the 2nd quarter of the 20th century, houses a 25-metre-long reinforced concrete swimming pool equipped with divers. This rare vestige, built around 1942, was part of the Wn 258 resistance nest, a strategic zone of the Luftwaffe during the occupation. Placed near a requisitioned master's house, it also included a light shelter, a cure and sanitary facilities, now partially preserved.

The monument illustrates the logistic organization of the German forces in Normandy, with infrastructures designed for the well-being of soldiers, such as this exceptional swimming pool. The second set of buildings, now extinct, completed this military complex, whose land base and archaeological remains have remained protected since December 2024.

The location, noted as mediocre (precision 5/10), corresponds to the place called Le Boulay, on the cadastral plot ZD n°50. This site, registered with the Historical Monuments, includes the hydraulic network and associated structures, offering a unique material testimony of the Second World War in Lower Normandy.
