Origin and history

Bouchain Powdery is a listed historical monument built in the 17th century. Located in the commune of Bouchain, in the Nord department (code Insee 59092), it is part of the military architectural heritage of the Hauts-de-France region. This type of construction was essential for the safe storage of powders and ammunition, reflecting the strategic needs of the time, marked by frequent conflicts and a changing territorial organization.

The building, located at 2 rue Roger Darthois or rue d'Ostrevent according to the sources, was entered in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 2 March 1981. Owned by the commune, its state of location is considered satisfactory a priori (note 6/10), although geographical details remain to be refined. The powder magazine illustrates the importance of logistical infrastructure in the fortified cities of northern France, where economic activities were often linked to defence and trade with neighbouring regions such as Flanders or Artois.

No information is available on its current use (visits, rentals, etc.), nor on any historical characters related to its construction or use. Sources are limited to Monumentum data and cadastral references (parcell B 1310), without further details on its architecture or operational history.
