Pont de l'Arche (no CADASTRE box; PUBLIC AREA): registration by order of 13 June 1991
Origin and history
The bridge of the Arche, located at Montchauvet in the Yvelines, is a pedestrian structure built during the second half of the 14th century. This monument, inscribed in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 13 June 1991, belongs to the public domain and is now owned by the municipality. Its location, reported on the C.R. 11 (known as the Arch), makes it a notable architectural vestige of this medieval period in Île-de-France.
The location of the bridge, although considered satisfactory a priori (level 6/10 according to the Merimée base), remains approximate, with an address associated with GPS coordinates indicating 7 Rue des Trois Fontaines. This type of bridge, typical of the late Middle Ages, was mainly used to facilitate pedestrian movements, often in a rural or local commercial setting. Its inscription in the title of Historical Monuments underlines its heritage importance, despite the absence of a precise cadastre in the archives.
Available sources, including Monumentum and Merimée data, confirm its status as a protected monument, without providing details on any sponsors or artisans. The Creative Commons license associated with his photo (credit: Spedona) and his lack of mention of an opening to the public or current tourist use suggest a vocation above all historical and local. No information is available on any specific contemporary restorations or uses.
