Origin and history
The Moret Bridge, also known as the Moret-sur-Loing Bridge, is a stone work crossing the Loing at Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne, Île-de-France. Built in a full arch, it is a central element of the urban landscape, located between points 3 and 4 of the 302 departmental road. Its architecture reflects traditional know-how, while marking local history by its role as a river and road crossing.
During the Liberation in 1944, the bridge was energized by German troops during the advance of the Patton Army, a milestone in its recent history. Although partially destroyed, its remains, including the remains of the old defensive post (door, court and tower on the river), were inscribed in historical monuments by order of 17 June 1926. These elements, today private property, bear witness to its strategic and architectural past.
The bridge also inspired artists, including Alfred Sisley, who represented him in 1887 in his painting Pont de Moret, a storm effect. This work illustrates the cultural and landscape attachment linked to this monument, which remains a symbol of the city. Its inscription in the heritage and its artistic representation highlight its dual heritage, both functional and aesthetic.
Administratively, the bridge is located in the Seine-et-Marne department, in the south-west, in the commune of Moret-Loeng-et-Orvanne (formerly Moret-sur-Loeng). Its approximate address, 9003 Rue du Pont, and its Insee code (77316) place it precisely in the urban and historical fabric of the Île-de-France region.
