Origin and history
The Tauziète Bridge is a medieval work rebuilt in 1628, according to the Nerac archives studied by historian Jean-François Samazeuilh. Located on the Osse, on the border of the municipalities of Andiran and Nerac (Lot-et-Garonne), it once linked Nerac to Mézin via a road today rural. Its stone-cut architecture and limestone bellows, with triangular forks to counter the jams, reflect the construction techniques of the time.
Ranked a historic monument in 1987, the bridge is distinguished by its three arches and its apron lined with low walls. It illustrates the importance of river infrastructure in this region marked by trade between the Agenas and Armagnac. Sources, such as the Dictionnaire de Samazeuilh (1881) or the Revue de l'Agenais (1969), underline its role in the local life network, although its exact origin before 1628 remains unknown.
A communal property, the bridge is today a testimony to the road heritage of Aquitaine, preserved for its architectural and historical value. Its inclusion in the inventory of Historical Monuments in 1987 allowed its conservation, while highlighting the know-how of 17th-century builders in the management of navigable or flood-risk watercourses.
