Origin and history
The Sully Bridge, also known as the Henri IV Bridge, is an art work located in the Calvados department in Normandy. It allows the crossing of the Drôme and connects the communes of Castillon and the former commune of Vaubadon, to the place called Bas de Vallemont. Accessible by the Old Moulin Road, this bridge could go back to the Romanesque era, although this dating remains uncertain.
The bridge has a history linked to the French monarchy: Louis XVI would have borrowed it in June 1786 on his journey to Cherbourg to inaugurate the port, although this information required verification. The building was restored at the end of the 20th century, reflecting its heritage importance. Since 4 October 1990, it has been included in the inventory of historical monuments, highlighting its architectural and historical value.
Administratively, the bridge is located on the municipalities of Castillon and Vaubadon, with an approximate address at 64 Chemin de la Vallée de Canchy in Castillon. It belongs to the public domain and is managed by the municipality. Its exact location, however, remains imprecise, with cartographic accuracy assessed as poor (level 5 of 10).
