The metal bridge (cad. non cadastre, delineation cf plan annexed to the decree): inscription by order of 24 April 2012
Origin and history
The Eiffel Bridge of Monéteau, located in the municipality of Monéteau (Yonne), was built between 1909 and 1913 to replace an old bridge. This metal structure is distinguished by its two large parabolic arches, each with three joints, leaning on abutments built on the banks. Its design recalls that of the viaduct of Austerlitz in Paris, making it a notable example of engineering at the time.
The bridge was listed as a Historic Monument by order of 24 April 2012. It is now owned by the Yonne department. Its location is specified as being on RD 158, with an approximate address at 1 Place de la Mairie, 89470 Monéteau. The accuracy of its location is considered very satisfactory, with a score of 8 out of 10.
The work is characterized by its metal structure, typical of the Eiffel company's constructions, although the source text does not explicitly mention its direct involvement. It is a road bridge, still in service, whose heritage value was recognized by its registration as Historic Monuments. No information is available about its accessibility to the public or specific services such as guided tours.
