Bridge situated on the former salt road between Scherwiller and Thanvillé (see plan annexed to the decree) (Case A1) : inscription by decree of 18 November 1993
Origin and history
Bridge number 4 is a historic monument located in Scherwiller, in the department of Lower Rhine, in the Grand East. Built around 1750, it is the fourth bridge built on the salt road, a major commercial axis from Scherwiller to Thanvillé. Its architecture is characterized by an arch in the middle, parapets and foothills, typical of the works of this time.
Ranked historic monument by decree of 18 November 1993, this bridge bears witness to the importance of road infrastructure in regional trade in the 18th century. It is now owned by the municipality of Scherwiller. Its listing in the inventory of historical monuments highlights its heritage value, particularly for its role in Alsatian economic history.
Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, specify that the bridge is located on the A1 cadastre between Scherwiller and Thanvillé. Although its GPS location is approximate (accuracy noted 5/10), there is still a representative example of the bridges of the Ancien Régime in Alsace. No information is provided on its current accessibility or tourist use.
