Bridge suspended on the Eyrieux (old) (no CADASTRE box; PUBLIC AREA): by order of 7 May 1982
Origin and history
The bridge over the Eyrieux is a suspended structure located in the commune of Saint-Fortunat-sur-Eyrieux, in Ardèche. Built in the first half of the 19th century, it illustrates the technical advances of this period in the area of suspended bridges. This type of structure, innovative at the time, allowed for the crossing of streams with large ranges while limiting intermediate supports.
Ranked as historic monuments by order of 7 May 1982, this bridge bears witness to the importance attached to the preservation of the 19th century industrial and architectural heritage. It is now owned by the commune and is part of the remarkable elements of the department of Ardèche, listed in the Merimée base under the code INSEE 07237.
The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, and more particularly the Ardèche, experienced in the nineteenth century a development of transport infrastructures, favouring local exchanges and the opening up of rural areas. The suspended bridges, such as Saint-Fortunat-sur-Eyrieux, played a key role in these dynamics, facilitating the movement of people and goods.
The monument is located precisely at 100 Chemin de Prahy, according to the GPS coordinates available. Although its current state and accessibility are not detailed in the sources, its classification as a historic monument guarantees its protection and heritage value. The Creative Commons license associated with some photographs of the bridge allows a wide distribution of its image, contributing to its reputation.
