Bridge on the Isch : classification by decree of 20 January 1986
Origin and history
The Wolfskirchen Bridge over Isch is a historic monument located in the department of Lower Rhine, in the Grand East. This bridge, of the type "back of donkey", is distinguished by its two arches in warheads extended at the base, as well as its parapets finished with a covered stone slabs. It is located precisely in the municipality of Wolfskirchen, near muehlberg or Ischbergweg Street, and was classified as historical monuments by order of 20 January 1986.
This type of bridge, typical of medieval or pre-modern buildings, played an essential role in local exchanges by allowing the crossing of rivers like Isch. In regions such as Alsace, stone bridges were often strategic points for trade, the movement of inhabitants and the structuring of rural areas. Their robust architecture also reflected local expertise in stone carving and engineering.
The bridge over Isch is now owned by the municipality of Wolfskirchen. Although the available sources do not specify its current use (visit, traffic, etc.), its classification in 1986 reflects its heritage value. The data from the Merimée database and architectural references, such as its donkey-backed style, make it an example of the region's ancient bridges.
