Origin and history
The bridge over the Touch, located in Toulouse, Occitanie, is a historical monument built in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, more precisely in 1768. Commanded by the states of Languedoc, this work is distinguished by its structure with a single arch, accompanied by flared parapets on each side. Its sober architecture is marked by a stone shield in key vault, representing the weapons of the Languedoc states, visible both upstream and downstream.
The inscription of the bridge as a Historic Monument by order of 11 April 1950 underlines its heritage importance. Originally, it was located on the national road from Toulouse to Bayonne, a strategic axis for regional exchanges. Today, its approximate address, 1 Place Alexandre Bisson, and GPS location suggest integration into the modern urban fabric, although its geographical accuracy is considered mediocre (note of 5/10).
No information is available on any architects or craftsmen involved in its construction. The bridge, by its simplicity and robustness, illustrates the utility works of the Ancien Régime, often funded by the provinces to facilitate travel and trade. Its current status and accessibility (open or closed to visit) are not specified in the sources consulted.
