Origin and history
The Pont des Romans, located in Évry-Grégy-sur-Yerre in Île-de-France, is a historical monument dating from the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. Filed by order of 28 February 1992, it is also known as Old Pavé and is part of the public domain. Although its name evokes a Roman origin, its construction is much more recent, part of a period of development of local infrastructure.
The work is associated with the architect or masterpiece Brunet de Rancy (or Rranky Brunet De), mentioned as responsible for its realization. The bridge, owned by the municipality, is located near the place called Le Pavé d'Evry, in an area where the accuracy of the location is considered to be satisfactory a priori (level 6 of 10). Its classification as Historic Monument underlines its heritage importance, although its current use (visit, rental, etc.) is not specified in the available sources.
The available data indicate that the bridge may correspond to an ancient Roman route, although this hypothesis is not detailed. Its appellation Vieux Pavé suggests a prolonged use, possibly linked to historical communication axes. The archives place him in the département of Seine-et-Marne (77), attached to the arrondissement of Melun, without further details as to his exact role in the local road or river network.
