Bridges of fascination (Case C 973, 974): inscription by order of 26 February 1936

Origin and history

The Breuil-le-Vert fascinate bridges, also located in the neighbouring municipality of Breuil-le-Sec, have been a historic monument since 1936. These works, typical of old construction techniques, are located precisely at 37 Rue des Charpentiers in the Oise department (60). Their preservation reflects the heritage importance attached to these modest but emblematic structures of Picardy territory.

The Hauts-de-France region, particularly the Oise region, has long been marked by a rural and artisanal economy. The fascinate bridges, built from interlaced wood snails, were initially used to cross wetlands or minor streams. Their existence illustrates the adaptation of local communities to geographical constraints, while revealing constructive practices that are now rare. These works, although not spectacular, play a key role in the collective memory of the surrounding villages.

The inscription of the fascinate bridges under the Historical Monuments by order of 26 February 1936 underlines their heritage value. This formal protection, which is relatively early for this type of structure, shows a willingness to preserve elements of the small rural heritage. Their location, reported with average accuracy (level 5 out of 10), remains a point of interest for researchers and local history enthusiasts.
