Origin and history

La Porte aux Armes de la ville, located in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, is a 14th century historical monument. It is distinguished by its Gothic style, with a mulled warhead door and a carved key representing the city's weapons. This type of architecture reflects the importance of urban fortifications in the Middle Ages, often linked to the protection of cities and the affirmation of their identity.

Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 22 August 1949, this door illustrates the medieval heritage of the Corrèze. Protected elements specifically include the structure and its heraldic ornaments. At the time of its construction, Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, like other cities in the region, was a centre of exchanges and local power, where the fortified gates played a key role in defending and controlling access.

Available sources, including Monumentum, indicate an approximate location at Bridolle Square. Although the practical information on the visits is not detailed, its inscription under the title of Historical Monuments makes it a notable part of the heritage of New Aquitaine, and more specifically of the historic Limousin.
