Door: inscription by order of 3 October 1929

Origin and history

The door used to be the entrance to "La Pourcelette" is a monument located in Reims, in the department of Marne (Great East). This vestige, whose original function was probably linked to an urban access or to an architectural ensemble that is now extinct, was inscribed under the title of Historical Monuments by order of 3 October 1929. Its present state and its integration into the urban fabric reflect the transformations of the city over the centuries, although its precise history remains partially documented.

In Reims, as in many French cities, monumental doors and entrances played a key role in the medieval and modern organization of spaces. They often marked the boundaries between neighbourhoods, protected religious or civil groups, or served as checkpoints for commercial and craft activities. The Pourcelette, by its name and its localization rue d-Anjou, could evoke a connection with agricultural or wine-growing activities, frequent in Champagne, or with an old seigneurial or ecclesiastical domain.

These elements, although not explicitly confirmed for this monument, are part of the regional heritage context.
