Prehistoric analysis (case AB 12, 13, 32): by order of 6 December 1978
Origin and history
The prehistoric deposit of Sermoyer is an archaeological site located in the municipality of Sermoyer, in the department of Ain, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This deposit, dated from the Prehistory and more precisely from the Mesolithic, offers a rare testimony of the ways of life of nomadic populations of that time. It was classified as historical monuments by order of 6 December 1978, thus recognizing its heritage and scientific importance.
The site is located on cadastral plots AB 12, 13 and 32, and belongs to the municipality of Sermoyer. Although its GPS location is approximate (noted with an accuracy of 5/10 in the databases), it is associated with the Dunes of Sermoyer, a natural environment that could have played a role in the implantation of human groups at this time. No information is available on its current accessibility or tourist use.
The Bresse region, where Sermoyer is located, was during the Mesolithic period a transitional zone between forest areas and plains, favourable to hunting, fishing and gathering. The deposits of this period are often linked to temporary camps, reflecting a mobile company adapted to local resources. This type of archaeological site provides a better understanding of the early stages of sedentarization and the interactions between human groups and their environment.
The deposit was classified in 1978 as part of a desire to preserve the French prehistoric heritage, while the archaeological discoveries of that period were still poorly protected. Today, the site is referenced in the Mérimée base, an essential tool for the inventory of national architectural and archaeological heritage. No recent search or detailed publication is mentioned in available sources, limiting current knowledge of its extent and richness.
