Facades and roofs of the rectory and barn (Box A 117): inscription by order of 21 December 1984
Origin and history
The Presbytery of Chartrené is a religious building located in the commune of Chartrené, now integrated in Baugé-en-Anjou, in the department of Maine-et-Loire. Dating from the last quarter of the 17th century or the beginning of the 18th century, it embodies the architecture typical of the presbyteries of this period in Anjou, with elements such as its portal and shed added to the 19th century.
The building, accompanied by its barn, was listed as historical monuments on 21 December 1984 for its facades and roofs. This protection highlights its heritage importance in the architectural landscape of Maine-et-Loire, while emphasizing its historical role in local community life.
At the time of its construction, the presbyteries served as a residence for priests and played a central role in the social and religious organization of the villages. In Anjou, as in other regions, these buildings often reflected the local prosperity and influence of the Church in everyday life, especially through agricultural and parish activities.
Available sources, such as the Mérimée and Monumentum base, confirm its status as a historical monument and specify its exact address: 21 Rue Saint-Maurice in Chartrené. Although information on its current use (visit, rental, etc.) is missing, its heritage inscription guarantees its preservation for future generations.
