Fronts and roofs (Box A 301): inscription by decree of 5 November 1970
Origin and history
The Presbytery of Plaisance is a historical monument dating from the 18th century, located in the commune of Plaisance, in the department of Vienna (86), in the New Aquitaine region. This building, typical of the rural religious architecture of the period, was partially protected by an inscription under the title of Historical Monuments in 1970, covering specifically its facades and roofs.
The location of the presbytery at 1 Rue Sainte Catherine is attested by data from the Merimée database and GPS coordinates. Although the accuracy of this location is considered satisfactory a priori (note of 6/10), the monument remains an important heritage landmark for the municipality. Municipal property, its current use (visit, rental, accommodation) is not specified in available sources, but its protected status makes it a key element of local heritage.
The period of construction of the 18th century coincided with a period when presbyteries played a central role in the social and religious organization of villages. In Poitou-Charentes (now integrated into New Aquitaine), these buildings often served as a place of residence for the local clergy and as a gathering point for parish activities. Their architecture generally reflected local resources and know-how, while meeting the functional needs of the community.
