Presbyterus, as well as the fence wall surrounding Parcel 221a (Box 221): inscription by order of 7 May 1991
Origin and history
The Case-Pilot Presbytery, located in Martinique, is a historical monument dating back to the second half of the 17th century. Its existence was attested in 1687, making it one of the oldest religious buildings on the island still in place. It is part of a characteristic parish complex, including the church, the cemetery and a garden, a model once widespread in the communes of Martinique. This type of configuration reflected the social and spiritual organization of parishes under the Old Regime and during the colonial period.
The present structure of the presbytery is the result of a major reconstruction undertaken from 1887, during the 4th quarter of the 19th century. Only the walls and ground floor of the original building were preserved, marking an architectural and functional transition. This renovation is part of a post-slavery and modernization of religious infrastructures in Martinique, where parish buildings played a central role in community life.
The presbytery, along with its fence wall, were inscribed in the Historic Monuments by order of 7 May 1991, recognizing their heritage value. Today, the site belongs to the state and to an association, although its access (visits, rental, accommodation) is not specified in the available sources. Its location, 5802 F Place Gaston Monnerville in Case-Pilote, makes it a historical and cultural landmark of the commune, despite a GPS location deemed mediocre (note 5/10).
