Origin and history

Le Présidial de Quimperlé is a historic monument located in the town of Quimperlé, Brittany. Built in the seventeenth century, it embodies the judicial architecture of this period, with remarkable elements such as its staircase, inscribed in the inventory of Historical Monuments by order of 7 July 1932. This building, now owned by the municipality, reflects the administrative and judicial organization of the area under the Old Regime.

The Presidial of Quimperlé is part of a historical context where the presidials, royal courts created to alleviate the burden of parliaments, played a key role in local government. In Quimperlé, as in other Breton cities, these institutions were places of power for civil and criminal affairs. The building, with its protected staircase, bears witness to the importance attached to the symbolism of the judiciary, while illustrating the architectural techniques of the seventeenth century.

The location of the Presidial, at 13 Bis Rue Brémond d'Ars, is attested by the Merimée and Monumentum bases. Although the accuracy of this location is considered "passable" (note of 5/10), it allows the monument to be located in the city centre of Quimperlé, in the Finistère department. The building, now closed to visit according to available sources, remains an emblematic heritage of the city, linked to its institutional and urban history.
