Origin and history
The Priory of Moulins is a religious building located in the commune of Moulins, in the department of Aisne (Hauts-de-France). Although its foundation dates back to the 11th century, its most significant architectural elements, such as its tower, date from a reconstruction or major developments in the 16th century. This site illustrates the medieval and reborn heritage of monastic settlements in Picardia, a region marked by a dense religious and agricultural activity.
The tower of the priory was listed as historic monuments by order of 8 February 1928, highlighting its heritage value. This partial classification reflects a desire to preserve an architectural testimony of medieval and modern times, in a context where many religious buildings were undergoing transformations or abandonments. Today, the priory remains a local historical landmark, although its current uses (visits, accommodation) are not clearly documented in the available sources.
