Origin and history

The Priory of Prémontrés Saint-Jean d'Hannapes is a Priory-Cure located in Hannapes, in the department of Aisne, in the Hauts-de-France region. This religious monument consists of a church, a prioral home, a barn, a shed and a closet, mainly built of brick, cut stone, limestone and flint. These architectural elements reflect local construction techniques and the importance of materials available in the region.

Priories, like Hannapes, played a central role in the religious and social life of medieval and modern rural communities. They served as both a place of worship, an administrative centre for ecclesiastical lands, and a gathering point for the faithful. In the Hauts-de-France, a region marked by a strong historical religious presence, these buildings testify to the influence of monastic orders, such as the Premonstrés, in territorial and spiritual organization.
