Origin and history
The mansion of Nuits-Saint-Georges, built in the 2nd quarter of the 18th century, is distinguished by its rectangular plan aligned on the street, structured in eight spans. It includes a cellar ventilated by spirals, a ground floor, and two floors including a high. Its broken croup roof, covered with flat tiles, is pierced with skylights adorned with carved or diculi pediments, while the walls of coated masonry are enhanced with stone strips. The bays, with loose lintels, have staple plant motifs, and a stone balcony with wrought iron railings decorates some openings on the first floor.
Located in the west, a second, more modest, square building features a ground floor and two floors under a two-sided roof. Its cochère door in the middle of the hanger and its loose lintel bays on the upper floor recall the main style. The ensemble, classified Historical Monument since 1983 for its facades and roofs, illustrates Burgundian civil architecture of the Enlightenment century, combining functionality and neat ornaments.
The location, at 5 rue Julie-Godemet, in the centre of Nuits-Saint-Georges (Côte d'Or), reflects the town planning of this wine town. Although the archives do not mention sponsors or architects, the quality of sculptures and the layout of spaces suggest an easy residence, typical of the aristocracy or the local bourgeoisie of the time. The building, today protected, bears witness to the built heritage of Burgundy-Franche-Comté.
The elements protected by the decree of 21 March 1983 are limited to facades and roofs on street (castre G 2614, 2615). No information is available on its current use (visit, rental, guest rooms), but its state of conservation, considered fair (note 5/10 for accuracy of location), makes it a notable architectural landmark in the urban landscape.
