Origin and history

Haussy House is a private hotel built in 1928 in Villeneuve-d'Ascq, on the initiative of Pierre d'Haussy, a textile manufacturer. Located at 30 avenue de Flanders, this urban residence embodies the Art Deco style of the inter-war period, while taking on architectural codes neo-classical of the eighteenth century. It was conceived as a bourgeois residence, intended for a sole proprietor, reflecting the social status of its sponsor.

The building is the result of a collaboration between several renowned artists of the period: architect Roger-Henri Expert, sculptor Carlo Sarrabezolles (specialist of carved concrete), painter Pierre Ducros de la Haille, and ironmakers Edgar Brandt and Raymond Subes. Their contributions marked the house with decorative elements typical of Art Deco, such as wrought iron grilles, interior frescoes and concrete sculptures. These artistic details, combined with a neo-classical structure, make it a unique testimony to the architecture of the 1920s.

Since 13 September 2006, Haussy House has been listed as a historical monument. The protection covers facades, roofs, the entrance gate, the garden (including a gloriette and a wall), as well as emblematic interior spaces such as halls, stairs, living rooms (including a decorated fresco) and a bathroom. These elements highlight the heritage value of the site, both for its architecture and its preserved interior decor.

Today, the house belongs to a private company, but its registration as historical monuments guarantees the preservation of its original characteristics. It illustrates the evolution of bourgeois homes at the beginning of the 20th century, combining aesthetic tradition and technical innovations, in a changing industrial context in the North of France.
